| Memoria, 2002-03 (dresses) |
In this recent series of drawings, elements of visual vocabulary are combined in novel ways to animate a little girl’s dress form. Juxtaposed with linear and textual pattern, the disembodied dress references both personal history and the global notion of the female person’s lack of value and entitlement. As a defining shape in this cycle of drawings, the dress progresses through organic and even surrealistic changes, and is ultimately reduced to a literal and metaphorical negative space. |
